ARTIST STATEMENT

My artwork investigates silent dialogues and visualises the unspoken language of human interaction. In my current series, I explore these connections through abstract groupings of the human figure, sculpted to capture not specific individuals, but the essence of relationship and community.
Each sculpture is formed from porcelain, a material chosen for its purity, strength and delicate. The process is a dialogue between control and release. I combine the precision of wheel-throwing to create the foundational cylinders or vessels and forms with the intuitive spontaneity of hand-building, where I pinch and join the clay to suggest a posture. This marriage of techniques embodies the way we are individually formed and shaped by our connections to others.
Colour is used with deliberately. Within a single grouping, each figure shares one unified tone—a quiet. This singular colour for the group speaks to a shared identity, a common experience, or a collective memory. It suggests a family, a community, or even a platoon—a set of individuals bonded by circumstance.
Finally, my artwork encourages mindfulness in our interactions. I create these objects to remind us of our fundamental need for each another. In this quiet space, I hope the audience can find a reflection of their own community and think about the important of respect, which cultivated through acts of kindness and empathy. These are not abstract ideals but the very gestures that define our humanity.
